Letter from the Regional Coordinator

Season’s Greetings!

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. We’re looking forward to an eventful 2006.

The Midwest Region will again be exhibiting at the Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress in Detroit, April 3-6. We expect to have about 20 exhibit hall passes, so if anyone would like to use them, please let Ken know.

The FLC national meeting will be held May 1-4 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This year’s meeting will include a full day of technology transfer (T2) training at Fundamental, Intermediate, and Advanced levels and the prestigious FLC awards program. In addition, there will be an FLC Tech Fair, which will provide laboratories the opportunity to display new technologies to an audience of venture capitalists, industry executives, federal agency representatives, T2 professionals, scientists, and laboratory directors. The meeting is in our region this year, so I encourage all of you to attend and to invite as many of your associates and contacts as possible.

At the national meeting we’ll also be holding elections for the positions of Midwest Regional Coordinator and Deputy Regional Coordinator. Each position is for a two-year term, and is open to Laboratory Representatives and Consortium Participants. The formal description of responsibilities can be found in the FLC Bylaws (starting here, at the bottom of the page). We need three members to act as the Nominating Committee (since Kristen and I will both be running for reelection, we can’t be on the committee). If you’d like to participate and plan to attend the national meeting, please let me, Kristen, or Ken know before January 15.

We’re planning to hold our regional meeting in conjunction with the Southeast Region this year. The meeting will be held in October in Nashville, Tennessee. At the moment, the program is still being developed; so if there are topics you’d like to hear about, experiences you’d like to share, or outside activities you’d like to suggest, please let Ken know as soon as possible.

Wishing you a safe and happy holiday season and New Year,

Cindy Wesolowski
Regional Coordinator
