FLC National Meeting and World's Best Technologies Showcase

  • What: Our theme, "Making the Connection," is predicated on the need to enhance American competitiveness. Technology commercialization is an especially critical need in the current global climate. "Making the Connection" will enable laboratories to link with one another, with partners in academia and industry, and with other government agencies to move their innovative technologies to the marketplace. This year the meeting will be held jointly with the 2007 World's Best Technologies Showcase (WBT). Linking with WBT offers the unique opportunity to connect with technology commercialization practitioners, executives and venture-capital investors. The Showcase features the world's largest collection of cutting-edge, first-to-market technologies presented to leading seed investors and Fortune 500 licensees. You will have an invaluable opportunity to hear expert speakers and to participate in sessions designed to provide critical technology transfer (Tē) information, highlight federal Tē accomplishments, discuss key Tē issues, and facilitate productive exchanges of ideas. In building on agency mission-driven partnerships with industry, the FLC and the WBT are striving to help us promote and foster the partnerships that bring our technological innovations to life.

LES 2007 Spring Meeting, "Licensing in the Era of Intellectual Property Revolution"

The main meeting kicks off on Thursday, May 17, with a plenary session at which Matthew Emmens, CEO of Shire Pharmaceuticals, will discuss "Licensing Specialty Pharma: The Views of an Industry Leader." Following him, a panel of distinguished members of the licensing community will shed light on the varied approaches to generating a return on intellectual property—from those that are truly revolutionary deal structures to those generating more hype than dollars. On Friday, plenary speakers include G. Wayne Clough, the president of Georgia Institute of Technology, a leading expert on the economic impact of the university community; Hank Barry, director, Business Department of Howard Rice Nemerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin, and former CEO of Napster, Inc.; and a panel discussing "Financing, Finding Deals and IP Protection for Recycled Products." An outstanding lineup of workshop programs is scheduled each day, with concurrent tracks on chemicals, energy and materials; consumer products; health care; high tech; industry, university and government laboratory transactions; and legal topics.
