Dear Colleagues: Well, we've come to the end of another year. It's only natural to both look back at the year gone by and look forward at the year to come. In 2007 the Midwest Region published four newsletters; updated the Points of Contact List twice, the regional brochure once, and the website every month; attended and presented at multiple events throughout the region; and hosted the Southeast Region at a very successful meeting in Cincinnati. In 2008, we'll continue to update the Region's documents, publish the newsletter, and keep the website updated. We'll also publish our second volume of DVD training, based on the presentations given in Cincinnati. We've begun planning a joint regional meeting with the Mid-Continent and Far West regions for the summer of 2008. This is my final term as Regional Coordinator, so at the national meeting in May we will elect a new one, as well as a new Deputy Regional Coordinator. If you are interested in participating, please throw your hat in the ring; Kristen promises that her feelings won't be hurt! In addition to news about new partnerships and research findings made at the labs in our region, this edition of the Midwest Region newsletter includes articles from several of the labs about their plans for 2008 and beyond. As we move into the 21st century, the world is being changed by technologies first developed in federal labs. It's good to see that the labs are prepared to continue creating the world of tomorrow.
